So far in 2019, an average of 6 appointments every day at the Weardale Practice have gone to waste.
This means patients either didn’t attend, or cancelled too late for the appointment to be given to someone else.
Not only does this make it harder for people who really need to be seen that day to get an appointment, it also costs the NHS considerable amounts of money every year.
On average, each 10 minute appointment costs the NHS £30. That’s paying for the person you see, and a share of all the overheads – the equipment they might use, the building you’re seen in, the administration of your appointment and management of the Practice.
Six appointments each day might not sound like a lot, but that’s £180 from an already squeezed budget wasted everyday.
Adding all those days, so far this year missed appointments have cost the Practice and the NHS over £19,000.
